Happy Quarter 2!!
I hope that you all are having a wonderful start to quarter 2. The kids and I have been busy in the art room. I am going to work really hard on uploading pictures to my blog so you can get an idea of what is going on in our art room.
We are off to a strong start in all my classes. In Kindergarten this week, we have been doing a few collages. One was inspired by Mondrian and the other was inspired by Matisse and his Icarus. I love working with your children. They are so eager to do art and are especially excited when we paint. We did paint the first week. We painted our crayon resist cactus's. They are lovely! This next week we will be talking about Georgia O'Keeffe. We will be drawing her yellow leaf and water-coloring it.
In first grade, we are still reviewing lines. We drew a hot air balloon together and then your students added their own decorations to them. They colored them with oil pastels (a personal favorite). We have been doing some Matisse. We are recreating his Pot de Begonia's (another personal favorite.) We will start working on a cactus silhouette and water color sunset. This lesson will follow along with their class and their lessons on habitats.
In second grade, we are discussing color; primary, secondary and tertiary colors. We are studying Kandinsky's Concentric Circles and re creating as best as we can using oil pastels. I hope they are having as much fun as I am blending and playing with oil pastels.
