The First Few Weeks

The last few weeks have been time for me to see what everyone has had in the way of art education and experience. This is my first year of teaching Kindergarten from the beginning of school ( I came in after fall break last year). I was excited and honestly blown away at all of them. They know their shapes so well and are even able to draw them. It is amazing.

In Kindergarten, we have drawn and cut shapes to make recognizable things that we might use everyday. Then we drew shape rockets. They had a lot of fun with those. These week are making spiderwebs and then water coloring them.

In first grade, we have been talking about some of the first art ever. The drawings were discovered in caves in France. We then drew our own cave art. We painted with black tempera paint and colored them in with oil pastels.

In second grade, we have been reviewing shapes, both organic and geometric. We are recreating Paul Klee's Cat and Bird. The medium we are using is chalk pastel.

You can find some pictures on my blog under grades.
